I love this board in Maboneng- an African variation of a board found in many cities around the world. Some of the quirky things others had written were “Go to Hogwarts” and “Understand Women”.
What do you want to do before you die?
I think that I’d like to visit every country in the world…
More about Maboneng
Maboneng is a Sotho word meaning “place of light”. Quite appropriate for a place that is a shining example of urban renewal.
Most Jo’burgers have been there at some time. But for those who don’t know, Maboneng is a privately developed energetic district in the Johannesburg CBD. It houses trendy art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, a market, a bioscope, a hotel as well as backpackers accommodation.
I went there for a Sunday stroll and snapped some photos on my smartphone.
The bright colours enhance the optimism in the area.
And so do boards like these…
We had delicious coffee at Origin Coffee…
And we visited Market on Main which is only open on Sundays…
where they were selling these delicious goodies…
and the biggest seafood paella I’ve ever seen…
Then we browsed through the shops and the galleries including the I was shot in Joburg gallery…
Out on the balcony, we saw this…
It was a great way to spend a Sunday morning.
Oh, and Maboneng also has free wi-fi.
