Our experience
Although we live in South Africa and own a car, we often need to rent a vehicle, especially when flying to other provinces. On our recent trip to Cape Town, we booked with Drive South Africa. It was easy to compare prices across different car rental companies on their website and make an informed decision.
Our booking was made through Europcar. Once we arrived in Cape Town, we went to their airport office to collect the car keys for our Kia Sonet. The vehicle was in great condition. It took us from Cape Town to Kleinmond, Gansbaai, Arniston and back to Cape Town. Returning the car was just as simple and we had no issues whatsoever.

I find driving in SA very similar to what I'm used to in Australia, and SA drivers very courteous. Avis always my go-to. Having rented several times in SA would always recommend taking out the extra windscreen and tyre insurance - which unfortunately I've had to claim on twice.
Great advice. I agree.
A very handy guide for my future visit to South Africa. Renting a car in a foreign country can often be a bit daunting so these tips are very useful.
The rental car very often makes or breaks the travel experience. Thank you for the helpful guide.
I wouldn't have expected to need a letter of authorization to travel outside of South Africa--thanks for the helpful tips.
