The gardens

An inner-city sanctuary in the heart of Sandton, yet far from the bustling crowds, the five-star Seven Villa Hotel & Spa aims to satisfy all of the senses and more.  Nestled in a quiet residential suburb just off the busy Grayston Drive, it is set around exquisite gardens where birdsong and flowing water provide a soothing soundtrack. You will feel as though you’re living in nature, while still being close to key business and shopping destinations.

Seating pods

The five-star offerings began even before arrival, when we were sent a guest preference form where we were requested to indicate our dietary requirements and select our preferred pillows and mini-bar contents from the respective menus.

The entrance

On arrival, we drove through the towering metal gates and were welcomed by the friendly porter who directed us to the reception lounge, where we were presented with a choice of drinks and efficiently checked in via iPads. He then drove us to our suites in his golf cart, which he dubbed his “limousine”.

There are 64 rooms in the hotel, of varying types, and some have jacuzzis. We stayed in a villa suite, while our kids stayed in a grand king suite. Both were huge and we loved them. Families also have the option of inter-leading suites, and if your pooch is your best friend, you are welcome to take him or her along with you too, as the hotel is pet-friendly.

Our Villa Suite

The elegantly furnished suites are decorated in a minimalistic style with chic monochromatic tones, complemented by subtle touches of colour and art. Ours had a king sized bed, a lounge area, a work area and a small balcony overlooking a stream.  The spacious bathroom had double basins, an egg-shaped bathtub and a rain shower.

Grand King Suite

The kids’ suite had a dining area, a working desk and a kitchenette with a microwave and crockery. Their bathroom overlooked the greenery.

Special touches in the rooms included ultra fluffy gowns, slippers embossed with “VII”, Nespresso machines, Russel Hobbs kettles and Wedgewood nougat cookies. 65” televisions offered a selection of the usual satellite channels, as well as Netflix and YouTube, and unlimited complimentary wi-fi was available throughout the hotel – to my kids’ delight. Personalised butler services are also available, should you require them.

The swimming pool

Although you will probably be loathe to leave your comfortable cocoon, there are many other relaxation areas scattered around the hotel like the heated outdoor pool with its sunbeds and mini waterfall feature, a private zen garden alongside the rooms, and the exquisite gardens, dotted with secluded seating areas, water features and sculptures by renowned artist Anton Smit. Indoor options include the Poison Ivy cigar lounge.

For additional pampering of the senses, there is a Camelot Day Spa at the hotel that offers a wide range of spa treatments including relaxing massage, skin care therapies, and hydrotherapy. CamelotKids offers spa treatments for children aged 12 and under. The fitness centre will allow you to maintain your gym routine.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the in-house restaurant or you can visit a plethora of other acclaimed restaurants in close proximity. We enjoyed breakfast there.
