I created the “Travellers’ Tales” series earlier this year to give my readers and other travellers an opportunity to talk about their travels. Today I would like to introduce you to Kathy, a travel blogger based in England. She blogs at Walkabout Wanderer.
I would love to hear about your travels too. Go to “Travellers’ Tales” , fill in the quick questionnaire and email it to me with your blog links.

Tell us a bit about yourself:
Hi, my name is Kathy and I'm a travel-holic. I'm 32 and from the North of England. I am just working my last few weeks at work before I leave to travel full-time.
In 2008 I went from package holidays to travelling solo around the world. Last week I visited my 59th country, Norway. I have made such amazing friends who I will never forget, experienced things that will be in my memories forever and grown in confidence everyday.
What is your earliest travel memory?
It would be taking Haven Holidays in permanent tents in the South of France. I remember my brother and I going to this big rock by the lake and jumping off it into the water. We drove all the way there from the North of England which was a long way.
Where was your last holiday?
I got back last night from Norway. I found cheap flights for £39 return and then hired a car. My friend and I wild camped and made our own food to keep the cost down. It was a lovely trip.
What was the best thing you did there?
We hiked 22km, and ascended 3000 ft up Trolltunga. It was hard work but we got some great photos at the top and saw some amazing views.
What was your best holiday ever? Why?
A holiday to Taiwan. I went there alone and met so many amazing people and experienced so many amazing things.
What must one do there?
You have to hire a bike. Most cities have places to hire bikes and great cycle paths. I cycled down the East Coast which was fantastic but rather tiring.
Who is your favourite travel companion?
Anyone! I love meeting people on my travels and hanging out with them for a few days.
Name one item you must have when traveling?
My camera. I may not be the best photographer but I try. I find that my trusted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ70 takes great snaps for me. Photos are great for memories but also as a blogger, they are pretty essential.
Your best travel advice?
Look out for free walking tours in major cities. They are great. You just tip the amount you can afford at the end of it. They will give you a locals insight to the city along with funny stories and it is also a great way of making new friends. (Ed's note: I second this. I've tried them in Italy and they were great)
The one place you want to visit before you die?
Wow that is hard! I hate to answer that as it might bring me bad luck once I have visited (Ed's note - Hopefully that won't happen). How about I tell you what is at the top of my hit list? The Silk Road in Iran. I have heard so many amazing things about Iran and would love to visit it. (Ed's note: Me too)
Your favourite place in South Africa?
Coffee Bay! I loved it there. So out of the way. Beautiful beaches and cliff top walks.
Worse travel experience?
A 14 hour night bus which I took from Goa to Hampii, India. It was a sleeper bus and I was right at the back in a coffin shaped area at the top of the bus. I left my travel sickness tablets in my backpack in the hold which I didn't have access to. I had my head out of the window being sick the whole time
Thank you, Kathy , for sharing your fascinating travels with us!
