I created the "Travellers’ Tales" section earlier this year to give my readers and other travelers an opportunity to talk about their travels. Today I would like to introduce you to Sadaf Afshan, a culinary blogger based in the United States. Visit her mouth-watering blog at My Culinary Adventures .
I would love to hear about your holidays too. Go to "Travellers’ Tales" , fill in the quick questionnaire and email it to me with your blog links.
I was born in India, hold a Canadian passport and currently reside in the United States. I have two daughters aged 7 and 9 who are the centre of my universe. Along with my online business, I write a halal food and lifestyle blog titled "My Culinary Adventures".
While growing up in India my Dad regularly took us to various travel destinations across the country. One of my earliest memories includes our visit to Nainital, a quaint Himalayan resort town in the Kumaon region of India’s Uttarakhand region. We loved the scenic beauty and the pleasant climate along with fun activities like boating, horse riding and trekking.
A few months ago we got the chance to visit Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Like most kids, it was a dream vacation for my daughters.
With four theme parks, two water parks, two entertainment areas, and hundreds of restaurants there is just so much to do at Disney. Thankfully, we had done some meticulous research and planning, to choose the most suitable activities for our daughters. Their favourite part was acting in a play with Princess Belle.
While some may not consider Umrah (Muslim pilgrimage) as a holiday, Makkah and Madinah were the perfect holiday destinations for us . The trip refreshed us spiritually and emotionally. Circling around the Kabah along with our kids is a memory that we will always cherish. We also visited several historical sites. Now my kids can instantly relate to many things that we teach them about Islam.
Another memorable holiday for us was a five day Caribbean cruise trip that we took a couple of years ago. It was a great way to relax and enjoy multiple destinations without checking in and out of hotels and wrestling with luggage along the way. Since we were cruising with our extended family, there were fifteen of us ranging in age from 3 years to 65 years, including 5 kids
My homeland India will always remain my favourite travel destination.
While visiting family and friends is my topmost priority, India has a lot to offer to the discerning tourist in terms of exotic locales, rich culture and history. You can enjoy lovely hill stations, sandy beaches, historic forts and palaces, cities and more.
My husband is my favourite travel companion not just because we share common interests but because we are always ready to accommodate each other’s’ interests in our travel plans and in the process often discover enjoyable things which we would never have thought of doing . When it comes to travelling we have clearly demarcated roles and responsibilities which makes things a lot easier.
My camera! I love taking pictures wherever I go.
Research, Research, Research. While I always believe in keeping an open mind and being prepared for surprises, proper research and planning before travelling makes the experience much more enjoyable, especially when travelling with kids or elderly people.
I wold love to visit Europe and explore it’s rich heritage.
