I created the “Travellers’ Tales ” section earlier this year to give my readers and other travellers an opportunity to talk about their travels. Today I would like to introduce you to Verushka Ramasami , a lecturer and lifestyle blogger based in Durban, South Africa. Visit her blog at Spice Goddess.
I would love to hear about your holidays too. Go to "Travellers’ Tales", fill in the quick questionnaire and email it to me with your blog links.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello, I am Verushka - a lecturer by day and lifestyle blogger by night. I live in sunny Durban after living for almost a decade in London. I am a domestic diva who has been bitten by the Travel Bug.
2. What is your earliest travel memory?
I was in Class 1 - so probably 5 years old - when my Dad took the family to Swaziland to celebrate my first school holiday. All I can recall was that we stayed at the Holiday Inn and it was very posh with a hot spring.
3. Where was your last holiday?
Well, not entirely a holiday, but a mixture of everything. In February, I was invited by Kerala Tourism to join 29 Travel Bloggers from around the world on a two-week road trip of the state.
4. What was the best thing you did there?
There were too many amazing moments and experiences. For me the ultimate was the overnight stay in Allepey on a Houseboat in the Backwaters of Kerala. This was so relaxing and beautiful watching life along the Backwaters where boats became school buses and the Backwaters was your bathing spot. We stayed in a five-star houseboat with 3 staff who looked after our needs and made us the most delicious meals.
5. What was your best holiday ever? Why?
Having lived for almost a decade in London, I love that city. It is such a buzzing city with so much to see, do and eat. I love how multicultural London is. It feels as if all the world can be found in London.
6. What must one do there?
Lots actually! I love museums so those must be on your to-see list -especially The British Museum and the V&A ; shopping on the famous Oxford Street followed by a meal down Edgeware Road aka Mini Arabia; a trip down Canary Wharf on the Docklands Light Railway to Greenwich; a walk in the beautiful park.
7. Who is your favourite travel companion/s?
My favourite travel companion is my mum without a doubt. We have a good relationship and we enjoy the same things.
8. Name one item you must have when travelling.
I always travel with a first-aid kit - even on local trips.
9. Your best travel advice?
Pack lightly ! Always carry a scarf just in case.
10. How can people connect with you?
