I created the "Travellers’ Tales" section earlier this year to give my readers and other travelers an opportunity to talk about their travels. Today I would like to introduce you to Anandi , a travel blogger based in Krugersdorp, South Africa. She blogs at SA Places to See.
I would love to hear about your holidays too. Go to “Travellers’ Tales” , fill in the quick questionnaire and email it to me with your blog links.
Hey I'm Anandi. I am a 28 year old South African woman who is not only patriotic by nature but a true explorer, searching and visiting all the amazing hidden places my motherland’s got to offer. In my spare time I like to run, cycle and go to the gym because keeping fit is part of my lifestyle. I’ve always had a passion for drama/acting and writing too. I enjoy my blog and hope that I can bring the same joy to my audience. I would also like to target venues and sanctuaries that need some exposure - almost like a ‘Paying it Forward’ Project.
My earliest travel memory was with my grandparents. We went from Cape Town to Worcester with the train. I must have been 5 years old and I remember sleeping on the top bunk. I was overwhelmed with excitement. I remember looking out of the window and seeing a world I never knew existed and knew that one day I want to travel and discover the wold.
My last holiday was over Easter. My partner and I decided to go on an unplanned road-trip to St Lucia. It was so much fun. St Lucia is a beautiful heritage town.
We went snorkelling for the first time at Cape Vidal beach and went on a game drive at night. The tour guide really made it an amazing experience by going the extra mile. He spotted a chameleon, stopped and got out to get it so I could hold it. It was a WOW moment.
The holiday that I wish never ended was my road-trip to Knysna in the Western Cape. It was a trip we went on in December 2015 before Christmas and we only had a few days to complete the full trip. We left from Krugersdorp where we stay and planned out most of our stops, sleeping over every night in a new town, and exploring so many unique and interesting historical places.
I have a soft place in my heart for the Karoo. There is just something about the landscape that makes me feel so connected and alive, and nature can be food for the soul.
Go do the Karoo Erdvark Trail and the Swartberg Nature Reserve 4x4 trail. Explore all the little shops and restaurants. Everyone has something amazing and unique to offer.
I had always travelled and went camping with my parents and sisters but my new favourite companion that I like to travel with is Rudi, my fiancé.
I will never be able to travel without my cell phone as I do almost everything on there - from writing and planning to taking photos.
Do not just rush to get to your destination. Make regular stops and plan nights to stay over at new places. We all have our places we love to go back to annually but try and explore more. Enjoy your surroundings and take it all in. Make memories and lots of them because that’s something that money can’t buy.
I would like to visit Greece or Thailand.
Thank you, Anandi, for sharing your fascinating travels with us!
