My name is Kat and I live in Toronto. I’m originally from St. John’s, Newfoundland, a city on the East Coast of Canada. St. John’s is famous for its colourful houses, icebergs, scenery and whale-watching. My love for travel started at an early age as every summer my parents and I would take a trip somewhere, either in Canada or abroad. When I got older, I wanted to experience living in another country, so while completing my Master’s degree I studied abroad in France. During that time, I travelled to many countries in Europe, mostly solo. So far, I’ve been to more than 40 countries.
My mom is from Singapore, so when I was very young I spent a lot of time there visiting my relatives. One of my first memories there is of visiting the zoo with my cousin. Since I had never been to a zoo before, I was so excited! Singapore Zoo is an open concept zoo (it has almost no cages) and is often called the best zoo in the world.
My last trip was to Cancun, Mexico in April.
Snorkelling for the first time! I saw so many colourful fish, a shipwreck, underwater statues and even a sea turtle!
That’s a tough question! I’ve been on so many wonderful holidays. If I had to pick two of the best, it would be Iceland and Japan. Before I went to Iceland, I knew it was an extremely popular destination, and I wasn’t sure if it would live up to the hype. However, Iceland ended up exceeding all my expectations! There was stunning scenery around every corner, and I absolutely adored the shaggy-maned Icelandic horses. Japan was an amazing trip as well. I loved the culture, food, attractions and shops. There’s so much to see and do there!

Cappadocia, Turkey. The landscape there is like from another planet. Many hot air balloons fill the sky every morning at sunrise. Night-time there is magical too. There are so many stars in the sky, sparkling above the fairy chimneys (rock formations). And the sound of the call to prayer coming from the local mosque is hauntingly beautiful.
Ride in a hot air balloon! I had to get up so early but it was totally worth it for the amazing views. The feeling of being in a hot air balloon was so peaceful, just like floating. I also recommend visiting Goreme Open Air Museum, exploring an underground city and taking a walk in the Ilhara Valley. I enjoyed the view from Selime Monastery too.

My fiancé. We’ve travelled to several countries together and it’s so romantic to enjoy beautiful scenery and new experiences with him. He is a very patient and flexible travel companion!
My camera! I love taking pictures when I travel. I have a collection of thousands of photos. I enjoy looking at them and reminiscing about my travels.
Always Google common scams before you visit a new country or city. Also, taking lots of photos and videos is fun but remember to put your camera away for a while and just soak in the scenery.
Definitely Antarctica! I’ve dreamed of going to Antarctica to see penguins in their natural habitat since I was a kid! The scenery there looks incredible.

When I was in Vienna, Austria, it was extremely hot (around 35°C). I felt very uncomfortable because of the heat. One afternoon, I went to visit the Imperial Crypt, which was very cool due to air-conditioning. I started feeling dizzy and the room began to spin! The next thing I remember is waking up on the floor of the crypt right next to the tomb of Empress Elisabeth of Austria! I had passed out for a minute and so many people were gathered around me staring!
