Travellers’ Tales – Meet Sam from Honest Explorer

Meet Sam from Honest Explorer

I created the “Travellers’ Tales” section to give other travellers an opportunity to talk about their travels. Today I would like to introduce you to Sam , a backpacker and travel blogger based in London . She blogs at Honest Explorer .

I would love to hear about your travels too. Go to “Travellers’ Tales, fill in the quick questionnaire and email it to me with your blog links.

Read about Sam’s travels here,

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Hi, I'm Sam, a 30 year old backpacker from London. I have been solo travelling for over a decade and love exploring new places. I am a little silly by nature, used to love martial arts before getting injured and have a degree in Fine Art. I love sitting in front of the TV and eating (boring I know).

2. What is your earliest travel memory?

Going to Wales every year to see my grandparents. My nan would cook us a full English breakfast every morning and then we would sit on the beach in the rain. (UK weather boo!)Honest Explorer

3. Where was the last place you travelled to?

Outside of my own country, New York, and I loved it! Such an exciting city. I loved seeing all the places you see in the movies.

4. What was the best thing you did there?

Top of the Rock at 8 am- the light was wonderful and soft and the views over the city were awesome.

5. What was your best holiday ever? Why?

Ooo tough! Some places are better in terms of landscape and some because of the people you meet there. South Africa has fond memories as it's the first place I went to and I had some of the best times there, growing as a person and making quality memories with my 2 friends. I felt so free and independent.

6. What is your favourite travel destination?

Hard to say, I love the easy travel in Thailand, the people of Cambodia, the craziness of India, the scenery of Peru and the heart of Africa.

7. What must one do there?

In all of these places I'd say to just explore, wander around, speak to locals, get a real feel for the country and get off the beaten track. Talk to people, make friends and you'll discover a lot more.

8. Who is your favourite travel companion/s?

Me! There no compromising at all 🙂

9. Name one item you must have when travelling.

Camera- I couldn’t cope without it! I love looking back on old travel photos and seeing the many places I've visited.Honest Explorer

10. Your best travel advice?

Follow your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s probably not. As a solo female traveller I’ve learnt to be careful about certain situations. Also to be flexible with changes of plans as it can lead to even better experiences.

11. The one place you want to visit before you die?

Bhutan. I have it in my head and now I have to visit!

12. Worst travel experience?

Getting sick in Peru and Bolivia for the entire 8 weeks. Just about managed to do the Inca trail but I felt rough most of the time on that trip. Now ever since then I've been lactose intolerant! All from the chicken on the plane. Oh dear!

13. How can people connect with you?

My solo female travel blog is at  Honest Explorer.

I'm also on Instagram.
